Line Chart Maker

Connect ordered data such as monthly sales or daily measurements with lines to show changes and trends. Compare several columns at once and get the increasing or decreasing trend interpreted automatically.

1Data Table

Paste a table copied from Excel into a cell (Ctrl+V). Click a column header (A, B…) before pasting to use the first line as column names. Double-click a header to rename it, right-click to insert/delete rows and columns, and formulas such as =A1*2 work too.

2Line Chart Options

Select Y-axis data columns (multiple allowed):

How to make a line chart

  1. Copy the Y value columns (and a numeric X column such as a sequence number if you need one).
  2. Paste into the data table (paste on a column header to use the first line as column names).
  3. Select the Y columns (several allowed). Leave X at '(Row order)' to plot by row number (0, 1, 2, ...).
  4. Press Draw and check the trend interpretation. Right-click the chart to save or copy it as an image.

When should I use a line chart?

A line chart is best for seeing how values change over time or order. While a bar chart is strong at comparing sizes between items, a line chart is strong at revealing rises, falls and patterns such as seasonality or sudden shifts.

How the X axis works

Only numeric columns can be used as the X column, and the points are connected in order of X. Leave X at '(Row order)' to use row numbers 0, 1, 2, ...

How to read a line chart

  • A line that keeps rising or falling indicates a trend. The automatic interpretation reports a trend when the R² of a linear fit is 0.5 or higher.
  • Regular ups and downs may point to seasonality or a periodic cause.
  • Sudden jumps are worth recording - measurement issues, process changes or external events.

Frequently asked questions

Can I draw several series on one chart?

Yes. Select several Y columns and each is drawn in a different color on the same chart.

What happens with blank cells?

Blank or non-numeric values are skipped and the remaining points are connected.

Can I add control limits (UCL/LCL)?

Control charts such as Xbar-R and I-MR are available in the Qstat desktop program.

Is my data sent to a server?

No. Everything is processed inside your browser and nothing is transmitted or stored.
